Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People in Loughborough, Leicestershire, is looking to find a new Chair for our Board of Trustees. Our current Chair is stepping down after many years volunteering at the helm to steer the Board and work closely with the Senior Management Team. Under our current Chair, Rainbows has successfully risen to all the challenges of increasing demand and significant organisational growth with annual revenues currently around £5.7m. Our reputation and accreditation for excellence has never wavered.
We are the only hospice across the East Midlands dedicated to delivering a comprehensive range of support services, nursing and care for a child from birth through to a young adult living with life threatening and life limiting conditions.
Many families hear of us and come to us. Equally, we are a key strategic partner to the NHS for referrals and liaise closely with the CCG’s to develop sustainable health and support services. Our ability to respond positively, our reputation for innovative approaches and our track record in first class care, means we have the right people, the right outlook and the capability to continue to meet the challenges of demand.
This is where you come in. Inspirational leadership and effective governance is paramount. We currently have 13 Trustees on our Board, with 5 new recently appointed Trustees amongst them – demonstrating our continuing ability to attract the best people to give their time. The Board is a multi-skilled and talented group of volunteers who have collective responsibility to oversee and govern our work. The Board ensures we are strategically focused, well managed, delivers on our promises to a multitude of stakeholders and continues to demonstrate excellence in all areas of operation. As Chair, you will lead the Board in spearheading the planning of our strategic future, define policies and work closely with the CEO and Senior Management Team to ensure clarity and achievement of set goals. Working to strict principles and practices that ensure we are true to our values and are transparent and accountable to our families, our supporters, the Charity Commission and the public in general goes without saying.
The commitment as Chair of the Board of Trustees is not one to take lightly. The Chair plans, attends and steers a calendar of around 15 annual Board and governance meetings, meets with and reviews performance of the Board and the CEO, develops a supportive relationship with the Senior Management Team and attends functions as a representative and ambassador of Rainbows. A track record in managing sizeable teams and providing insightful strategic leadership to a Board or Senior Management Team is essential. A strong appreciation of the charity or health and care sector, with evidence of working in an environment where strict governance and compliance is paramount, would be advantageous.
Rainbows supports children, young people and their families from many multi-cultural and multi-ethnic communities across the East Midlands. We welcome applications reflective of the region and rich diversity of the communities we serve.
If you want to play a leading part in shaping the future of Rainbows and the families we support, we would be delighted to hear from you. To apply, please visit our website.
If you would like to explore further what it could mean to lead the Board of Trustees please contact Marion Borg, Head of Human Resources.
In addition, on Wednesday 1 November, between 5.00pm – 6.00pm, there is an opportunity to visit the hospice to meet our Trustees for an informal discussion, followed by a tour.
The closing date for this post is 11.59pm on Monday 6 November 2017 and interviews will be held on Tuesday 14 November.
