Chair of Board
Young Gamblers Education Trust (YGAM)

Meetings held in London with reasonable expenses reimbursed.

From the National Lottery and scratch cards which are available everywhere, to betting shops located on our high streets, to casinos which are open 24/7 in most cities, to 24/7 remote gambling (gambling via the internet), to skin betting, bongo bingo, and even the rise of unregulated social gaming (via free to download apps on your mobile) gambling and social gaming is all around us.  Whilst many people enjoy gambling and social gaming safely, for others it can become a terrible addiction. This is why YGAM, an independent charity, has been set up with a social purpose to inform, educate and safeguard young people against problematic gambling & social gaming.

From an idea on a sheet of paper in 2015, to achieving over £500,000 in funding with eight employees, our growth to date has been impressive. This has proven that there is a real need for what we are doing.  We have developed the UK’s first fully externally accredited and quality-assured education programme, and will soon pilot a new externally accredited qualification for people working in the gambling industry. In the coming  year we aim to achieve £1m turnover and we will deliver our education programme to 600+ organisations.

This is just the beginning. We want to achieve a national profile, diversify our income streams and expand our peer education programmes in collaboration with universities. Our ambition is to become the leading international organisation on minimising gambling and gaming-related harm among young people, through preventative, quality-assured and internationally recognised accredited education.

As a start-up charity, our focus to date has been weighted towards developing our products and services and raising the income we have needed to be viable. Now we realise that to underpin a sustainable and successful future we need to develop our governance and have a Board of Trustees who can help support and guide us through the next phase of our development.

As we grow we want to maintain our start-up culture and entrepreneurial spirit, so we need Trustees who can offer a balance of both scrutiny and support, people who can help us manage our risks without slowing us down.

The Chair will need to have a passion for our work, whether this is derived from personal experience or an interest in education or harm prevention in young people. Their experience will enable them to critically analyse the business operations, help us to implement great governance practice, and be able to lead the Board and Trustees to perform at a high-level.  As we build our Board and recruitment new people, we are looking for people with a range of skills and experience including but not limited to: income generation experience gained whilst working with the education sector; marketing and campaigning skills; experience of public policy and government relations; finance; and charity governance.

If you would like an informal conversation about the roles you can contact our recruitment partners, Grant Taylor on 07958 690184 or grant@peridotpartners.co.uk or Bill Yuksel on 07801 897063 or bill@peridotpartners.co.uk at Peridot Partners.
