Having supported dramatic improvements in the quality of teaching, learning and outcomes for students, alongside significant capital estate programmes at Hopwood Hall College, we now require a successor to our outgoing Chair, Robert Clegg OBE, once he steps down at the end of this academic year. Whilst the College is ‘good’ and the finances ‘outstanding’, now is not a time for our next Chair to accept the status quo as the FE sector is seeing constant and dramatic change and challenge, through increased competition and no increase in funding. Now is the time to support our experienced and trusted Executive Team to continue to think creatively and commercially, to take appropriate risks and develop and sustain improved relationships with employers, community leaders and businesses locally and regionally, to maximise income and opportunities for our students.
Our ideal candidate will have significant senior leadership experience, and we are open to hearing from colleagues from a variety of backgrounds and sectors. You will have had, or continue to have, Board-level exposure through your executive and/or non-executive career background, and fundamentally understand good governance and how to lead it. If you have held the role of Chair in a previous organisation, then this would be advantageous, though this is not an essential requirement as we are confident that the right person will be able to apply their skills appropriately.
Most importantly, you will want to become the lead ambassador for Hopwood Hall College, be an inspirational leader and have a determination to see education and skills improvement in Rochdale and across the Borough. You will understand the importance of delivering a relevant curriculum offer which benefits students and their employability, the local economy in the Borough, across Greater Manchester, and the wider UK economy at large.
It is expected that our Chair Designate joins our Board in Spring/Summer 2018, in advance of taking the Chair in September 2018.
