The University Council is seeking to appoint one new non-executive External Council Member for an initial four-year term of office. Applications are invited from individuals with a strong personal commitment to higher education; with a successful track record of leadership and achievement in their professional lives; with an understanding of the leadership and management challenges in large, complex organisations; and experience of non-executive roles at Board level. We would especially value applications from individuals with a customer service industry background and strong social media knowledge.
The primary responsibilities of Council include setting the mission and strategy of the University, monitoring institutional performance to ensure financial sustainability and the achievement of the University’s goals, and ensuring sound corporate governance. The role is not remunerated, although reasonable expenses are reimbursed. We have also prepared a statement about the broader benefits you can expect to gain as an External Council Member, including the opportunity to build a larger, more diverse network, and to engage in something of real value.
The University is committed to advancing equality and valuing diversity in all of its practices. To support this, we particularly welcome applications from people who can enhance the diversity of the Council’s membership.
