Overview

The successful candidate will contribute to the Board’s role in leading the Health and Safety Executive, with the opportunity to influence the future direction of health and safety in Great Britain.

Key responsibilities include:

Helping lead the work of HSE by operating effectively as a Board Member and by contributing to Board meetings and discussions;
Chairing or participating in the activities of Board Committees;
Maintaining effective working relationships with a broad range of networks and stakeholders;
Representing HSE externally, acting collectively in representing its decisions to stakeholders and the general public;
Acting as a mentor to HSE’s senior staff, particularly in their area of expertise;
Demonstrating a commitment to the Seven Principles of Public life set out by the (see page 9 in this pack).
Person Specification
We are seeking candidates with the right skills and abilities to complement the existing Board members. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate:

Ability to effectively contribute to Board activity in a high profile environment;
Ability to influence, build consensus and communicate with a range of stakeholders;
Ability to analyse complex issues;
Ability to work in a sensitive area, sometimes under the pressure of close public scrutiny; and
Significant experience of representing workforce issues at a senior level.
The following criteria are also desirable:

Current networks with employee or workforce organisations and/or current knowledge of workplace issues;
Knowledge of health and safety issues; and
Ongoing connections with stakeholders in Wales.
Additional Information
£15,100 per annum for approximately 30 days committment
