Overview

Advocacy Focus is a charity supporting people with a range of complex health conditions to have a voice in shaping support to meet their needs. Working across the North West of England and Yorkshire, we work with a range of people to develop their self-advocacy skills to take action on issues relating to their health and social care.  Our clients vary, with some facing mental health challenges, many unable to use conventional means of communication or deprived of their liberty to keep them safe and some lack capacity to take part in decisions because of conditions such as dementia or learning disabilities.

We believe that everyone has the right to be heard and we’re passionate about delivering independent support to uphold our client’s rights where no one else is there to support them.

We are an award-winning service provider winning an ‘Outstanding Service’ award at the National Advocacy Awards in 2016 (held bi-annually), our Volunteer Manager was ‘Highly Commended’ at the North West Charity Awards in 2017 and we were winners of the ‘Excellence in Training and Mentoring’ award by SELNET, also in 2017.  Already in 2018, we have been shortlisted as finalists in the categories of Charity of the Year, Employer of the Year and The Skills, Education and Training Award at the E3 Business Awards in July 2018. We’re a dynamic charity striving to become the lead provider in our area of operation and beyond.

We’re seeking a Treasurer to join an already strong leadership team and to provide support and governance over the charities finances.

As a member of the Board, you will have a clear commitment to our mission, upholding and enhancing the rights and voices of people to be heard.  You’ll already have, or need to acquire, an understanding of your role as a Director within Companies House and Charity Commission legislation.  Knowledge of the sector is not necessary.

Trustees will need to commit to attending a six weekly Board Meeting currently held in Accrington.  All reasonable expenses will be reimbursed as part of this role.

Whilst previous Treasurer experience would be useful it is not essential, but at least a working knowledge of book-keeping would be a minimum requirement.

To discuss the role please contact Justine Hodgkinson, Chief Executive or John Hutchison, Operations Director on 01254 958940.

To express an interest please forward an initial expression of interest email to HR@advocacyfocus.org.uk
