Eastside Primetimers are working with BASIS to find a treasurer and 1-2 trustees. BASIS are a South Essex charity established 20 years ago to improve the independence and quality of life for all those who have a visual impairment, their families and carers. They raise awareness of the issues that people encounter along with providing a range of educational and social activities, training (including guide dog training) and advice.
BASIS are keen to recruit people with some previous experience of small charities to complement their committed board. Having recently been awarded Big Lottery money, they have undertaken a review of governance and embarked on this process of diversifying their board. They need a new treasurer following a recent resignation along with at least one additional trustee. They are particularly interested in individuals from a fundraising or human resources background. Finance expertise is required for the treasurer although they may not be a qualified accountant.
It’s a lovely team with a committed CEO who are motivated by the personal stories that beneficiaries have and their ability to make a difference to those people’s quality of life. Several of the board have visual impairments themselves, some of whom developed them as a result of illness so they understand the trauma of sight loss to an able bodied, healthy and active young person. They have developed from a small organisation run by volunteers to one that is growing and changing and so requires a re-energised board that would enable the organisation to meet its future challenges and continue its recent growth.
For further information including job description please contact Jo Simpson by email to email@example.com.. Application is by CV and supporting letter outlining why the role is of interest and suitable to you.
