An opportunity to join the Board of a major healthcare charity

We are an independent charity raising funds for projects, research, equipment and training at Charing Cross, Hammersmith, Queen Charlotte’s & Chelsea, St Mary’s and The Western Eye hospitals. We’ve awarded more than £12million to 300 healthcare projects to date, and since 2015 committed a further £20million to the hospitals of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust over three years for a series of major projects.  With assets of c.£90m, IHC is one of the larger healthcare charities, and in the autumn of 2015 committed a further £20million to support major projects with the Trust over the next three years.  The Charity is also running several large capital appeals.  The Charity manages and exhibits an outstanding collection of more than 2,000 inspirational works of art.  In April 2016, the Charity took over the management of the Trust’s volunteers service and the potential redevelopment of the various Trust sites presents exciting opportunities and challenges, with which the Charity will be closely involved.

As a Trustee, you will:

  • Develop the Charity’s strategy and be responsible for fiduciary and financial oversight.
  • Work in conjunction with the other Trustees and the Chief Executive, providing independent advice and counsel
  • Support and challenge with confidence and rigour, ensuring that the Charity delivers its aims and objectives
  • In addition to attending five Board meetings a year you will join the research and the grants committees, each of which meets two/three times a year.

With credibility as a clinician, research scientist or similar, you will be accustomed to working at board or similar level.  You will share our passion to help make a positive impact.  With an affinity for the Charity and its work and ideally with some experience of charity governance, you will be excited to help shape our plans as the Charity further develops its relationships with the Trust and its work.  The role is not remunerated but out of pocket expenses are reclaimable.
