Since our inception, the Rainforest Foundation UK (RFUK) has helped indigenous peoples and local communities to protect more than 12 million hectares of rainforest. We believe that the best way to protect the rainforest is through empowering the people who live there to defend their ancestral lands.

At this pivotal time for the environment and conservation in the face of changing political landscapes, we are seeking two new and committed Board members to help continue our vital work and provide strategic leadership to our organisation.

We welcome applications from all backgrounds, though have identified the following specific areas of particular value:

·         Ambassadorial figures with strong networks and connections and the willingness and ability to leverage these on behalf of RFUK

·         Campaigning and communications professionals

·         Commercial and entrepreneurial flair, preferably from the technology sector

·         Qualified accountants

·         Human resource management practitioners

Person specification

Applicants must be able to demonstrate a genuine commitment and interest in human rights and environmental issues, coupled with the ability to: think strategically; challenge constructively; scrutinise Board papers and financial information; and actively and effectively contribute to Board discussions.

Experience operating at non-Executive Director or Trustee level and knowledge of charity sector governance – as well as an understanding of the global NGO sector, external environments and donor funding – are also highly desirable, though not essential, for Trustee applicants.

About the Board

The Board is comprised of passionate professionals representing a range of sectors and specialisms, including: sustainability, human rights, income generation, legal, finance, academia and governance.
