We are looking for someone to join our Board who is passionate about the values of Central YMCA and has a genuine interest in the work we do. This is an exciting role at a time of significant change that will give challenge and reward in equal measure.

About the charity

Central YMCA is the founding Association of the world’s largest global youth movement which began life in 1844. Our ambition is for every individual to thrive in body, mind and spirit, through imaginative and healthy activity, creative learning programmes and supportive social opportunities.

Through our five operations, three of which are national, YMCA Awards; YMCAfit; YMCA Training; YMCA Club and One KX, we exist to enable the personal and professional development of young people and those in need, within our local communities in London and across England.

We have enjoyed a long and rich history of thought leadership in the wellbeing sector since our inception 173 years ago and we continue to devote ourselves to adapting our approach to the changing needs of contemporary society.

About the role and you

All Trustees need to be able to provide effective strategic oversight of the charity’s activities. We are seeking a new member with a strong financial background at a strategic level to join and support the Board, Treasurer and Leadership team to monitor the financial standing of the charity during what is a period of significant change and development.

You will be a qualified accountant with a strong understanding of charity finance practices ideally. Our unique and diverse funding and operating structures will appeal to those who enjoy working across a range of commercial challenges and our current IT and infrastructure investment project will also appeal to candidates with experience of leading on the delivery of a transformative digital strategy.

We are currently reviewing our Board meeting cycle and governance structure, however you will be required to attend a minimum of three Board meetings a year and there would be an expectation that you would join one or more of our committees or otherwise lend your expertise by leading on various strategic topics on behalf of the Board.

The role is un-remunerated but reasonable expenses will be covered and any required training will be provided.
