London-based conflict monitoring NGO Airwars is looking for a new volunteer Treasurer to join our small, high skills Board, and to help us continue to evolve and grow organisationally.
The volunteer Treasurer is one of four legal directors of Airwars, and has oversight of an annual budget currently in the region of £400,000 which is expected to increase moving forward. The Treasurer also supports the Director through the provision of financial information, advice and budgeting guidance. The role is supported by a part time bookkeeper.
The Treasurer post would suit someone with solid finance experience either in the private or third sector, who would relish the challenge of helping advise and grow a niche NGO that is doing vital work aiding vulnerable people in conflict zones.
Airwars is a small, London-based NGO focused on monitoring and evaluating claims of civilian harm from international military actions in conflict zones such as Iraq, Syria and Libya. We also work with militaries to help them better understand reported civilian harm, with the goal of reducing such casualties on the battlefield.
Founded in 2014, we were recently described by the New York Times as the pre-eminent organisation in our field, and our research and findings are widely respected and reported upon internationally.
Headquartered at Goldsmiths, University of London, we employ 15 full and part time staff and contractors dispersed across the UK, Europe, North America, the Middle East and North Africa. Our funding is primarily via project-focused grants from large philanthropic funds, as well as some public donations. Airwars is registered in England and Wales as a not for profit company limited by guarantee, and we have also recently secured equivalency determination certification regarding US charity law compliance.
